20 Simple Hacks When Moving
- CHANGE YOUR ADDRESS! Sometimes we forget just how many people & places need notifying when you make your big move. Refer to this checklist when doing so to make it easier
- Hold a Yard Sale to get rid of all the things you won’t be needing in your new home.
- Schedule your move for the middle of the month or the middle of the week to cut costs. It’s cheaper to move then!
- Pack your toaster in a bag to avoid a crumb mess.
- Pack your heavier books in a suitcase with wheels! This should make one of the harder items to transfer, easy as can be!
- Place a cotton ball in your makeup compacts so they don’t shatter while moving.
- Pack the items that you’ll need most immediately in a clear plastic bin or a designated “open first” box. Things like bed sheets, hand soap, toilet paper, towels, etc.
- Use rubber bands on the doorknobs, to prevent getting locked out while moving boxes.
- Put all your sharp knives inside oven mitts to prevent injury.
- Snap a picture of the back of your TV and other electronic devices. That way, you know exactly which wires go where
- Put plastic wrap over things like drawers & utensil holders, so you don’t have to empty out their contents.
- Use toilet paper tubes to keep cords organized & untangled.
- Put essential appliances in a laundry basket so you can put them on your counter right away in your new place. (like cookie jars, coffee maker, toaster, etc)
- Use clothing or other soft materials as padding for the dishes or other breakables
- Stuff your shoes with small items to maximize space.
- Wrap a rubber band around the end of a hammer to prevent scuffing the wall when removing nails
- Put your jewelry in an egg carton, to prevent tangling! Tape it shut so nothing comes out.
- Using tape, put an X across your mirrors so they don’t break in travel.
- Cut handles into the sides of cardboard boxes for easy lifting.
- Cover all bottles of liquid (shampoo, cleaning supplies, etc.) with plastic wrap before putting the top on.
